Good God

Yesterday, God brought home a great man of faith. Evangelical Preacher, Billy Graham passed at the age of 99 at his home at Montreat, N.C. What a wonderful life of love and legacy. He is survived by his wife Ruth, and their 5 children Franklin, Virginia (“Gigi”), Anne, Ruth and Nelson (“Ned”). How proud Billy and Ruth are of their children, who to this day, carry on their father's legacy of love, faith, and hope in the name of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. A man of character, Billy Graham never wanted his ministry to be accused of being financially motivated. When asked why he chose to only receive a modest salary from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Billy replied,“Why, I could

Where is God?

"And because of the increase of lawlessness, the love of many will grow cold." Matthew 24:12 (NRSV) Today, the world is saddened and asks, "Where is God?" as terror and death again comes to our high schools. 17 innocent lives were taken in Florida yesterday by a troubled young man who returned to his high school and randomly shot children and teachers. Monday morning another young man took his own life while on the campus of Riverside Community College and the lack of mental health services is identified as partially the reason for this loss. The Encourager's Team is saddened and is keeping these families in our prayers and are making ourselves available to anyone who is a victim, knew someo

HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY!

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY! There's a commercial on the radio that always makes me smile. The man is advertising his air conditioning service and says at the end of his promo that the customer will be, "Happy, happy, happy." I don't know why, but that just makes me smile every time I hear it. Simple pleasures make me more happy than grand gestures. When I hear, "I love you" from my daughter, grand-babies, and friends, it just lifts my spirits to a place of soaring. This week I've also come to a greater appreciation and love for my team and our work environment. The people I work with are upbeat, hardworking, giving, and loving people. It's a BLAST to hear someone who is a valuable team member say

Words Or Action

Tomorrow is Valentine's day! All over the place I hear front doors slamming and car engines roaring to life as men everywhere rush out to the local supermarket or CVS to buy their girlfriend or wife a "meaningful" gift. Or are they? Many married women have voiced the same sentiments about Valentine's Day, "Show me you love me on a day that's NOT Valentine's Day." It appears that the once a year remedy for all things wrong with relationships has lost its power with today's women. I think it's the stockpile of cheap, meaningless "gifts" that were purchased in haste and without much thought that have reaffirmed to women that they are not loved, cherished, or adored by their men anymore on this

Imagine It

Last night, the 2018 Winter Olympics opening ceremony was televised. North Korean and South Korean athletes entered the stadium sharing the stage under a united Korean flag. Leaders of both North and South Korea, as well as America's Vice President Mike Pence, sat together and shared in the moment together. How can this be? Only weeks ago, North and South Korea were preparing for the likelihood of war with North Korea testing nuclear weapons and threatening South Korea with total annihilation. How can this be that two nations so at odds could come together under one flag? It took imagination and someone had to believe it could happen first. Well know authors, preachers, and motivational spe

Crazy Train

I love trains. Not all trains. I love the steam locomotives of the old days. When my daughter was 9 months old, we rode an Amtrak train to meet family in Snohomish, Washington . When she was 4 we rode the Grand Canyon Railway. I also took her on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad in an open boxcar where soot littered our faces and got into our smiling teeth. There's nothing like the majesty of the unpaved, undeveloped, and uninhibited countrysides that frame the backdrop for the tracks. For me there is peace in the solitude as we gently roll along. In life, we can also experience a different type of train ride, one where the train is plowing down the tracks out of control. A clie

Snap Judgements

I was driving down the street with my brain itemizing all the things I had planned for the day, and I was a little irritated at myself because my day had not been going according to my plan. It was early and the sun was just beginning to peak over the horizon. I noticed a woman walking her dog. She stopped abruptly and pulled out her phone to take a picture of the sky. Then I looked up and saw this beautiful sunrise. Suddenly, the beauty filled my brain and gratitude filled my spirit. I pulled my car to the side of the road and snapped this picture and said "Thank you," out loud to the creator of the universe. Right then, I knew it was going to be a good day. Buddha was asked, "What have you

Traffic Jam

In this song by Skillet - "Would It Matter" the lyrics ask, "If I wasn't here tomorrow, would anybody care?" These words express what so many of our youth are feeling today. They truly are unseen, unwanted, and unloved. Many of the homeless individuals on the streets are children who were forced out (abandoned), removed (abused), or left (ran-away) to find a "better" life. These children are being forced into prostitution, labor camps (sweat shops), and are bought and sold to the highest bidder. It used to be we only heard of this atrocity occurring in other countries. But now, it's in our neighborhoods and our backyards. I recently met with a man who lived homeless on the streets for 15 yea

Compromised Standards

Do you ever second guess yourself? Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you were forced to compromise your beliefs and give in to the wishes or desires of another person? Of course you have, we all have, after all isn't that what compromise is? What happens when you have been forced to compromise all your life and you don't even KNOW what your beliefs are? A 40-something married woman came into my office and asked me, "Is it considered rape if you say no to your husband, but he presses you into letting him have sex with you anyway?" This could be any woman, mother, wife, or child's question today. "They say that what is right is wrong and what is wrong is right; that black is w
