De-Stress Latte

Ahhhh, I can smell the coffee brewing and the smell fills my soul with warm-and-fuzzies as I slip on my slippers and shuffle across the floor to the kitchen. There’s just something about a cup of hot coffee (or hot cocoa or tea for you non-coffee drinkers) that warms the cockles of my soul. I have no idea what a cockles is, but it feels good with a hot cup of coffee in my hand. This is my idea of a “de-stress latte” moment.

I am a natural “morning person.” I wake “naturally” at 4:30 every morning and begin my day with my coffee and slippers. My husband never could understand WHY I would want to get out of bed at 4:30 a.m. but for me, it’s the BEST time of the day. There’s just something magical to me when I get to watch the day slowly come to life and get to ease into it on my terms. I walk outside and look up to the sky and can see the beautiful stars looking back. The cool air on my face awakens my spirit and a deep breath fills my lungs with fresh air, undisturbed by the gentle breeze that brings Goosebumps to my skin. My horses gently stir as they sense my presence and all is “right” in the world, even if for only a moment.

How many moments like this do you take time to experience–any at all? Or do you sleep as long as you can, awaken to the sound of the alarm, jump out of bed to rush the kids to school, your husband to work, or get yourself off to your job as well? Throughout the day are you so distracted by all the “have to’s” that you don’t experience any “get to’s?” Are you trying desperately to avoid changes, control outcomes, and prepare for the unexpected that you are actually MISSING life? Are you putting your life on a shelf for money, stuff, and others, while all along change is happening around you and you CAN’T stop it, no matter how hard you try?

My beautiful niece, Jessica, has been blessed with many gifts; one is the gift of poetry. She writes about change in her blog (yes, another Coffman writing a blog…I’m so proud!):

“Yet we human beings, fall into the unease of the change.

Allowing Goosebumps on our skin, to become a physicalization of the unknown fear of a new life season.”Jessica Coffman,

I swear I have no idea where she came up with the word, “Physicalizaton,” but I love it! Do you go through life chasing your tail to avoid change? Change is enevitable, we CAN’T stop it from happening. Fear will keep you moving, but it will not let you enjoy the journey of life. You’ll come to the end of your days feeling you “missed it.”

So take time each day, morning, noon, or night, to experience the “physicalization” of the moments created by God, each and every day. Happy Thanksgiving from the Encouragers’ Team.

“This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
