Last night Encouragers had our annual Christmas party, and today I woke up feeling blessed.
Family is a blessing, and the Encouragers' Team is family to me. Each member of this family has their own particular gifting of love, life, and encouragement for others. The miracle of love is that we can gather and share the spirit of love with people we hardly know even as our hearts are breaking for those we serve.
38 "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.
For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38
Every day at Encouragers we "love on" our clients and give them a safe place to find acceptance and rest for a broken heart. Our clients are not "unique" in their need for love and acceptance, as I believe EVERYONE needs to feel they are loved and accepted by others, and especially by those people they love the most: family.
Unfortunately, nearly everyone in therapy at Encouragers has a broken relationship they are hurting over. They can be morning the loss of a loved one who divorced them, or someone who has turned their back on them as they undergo cancer treatment. Some parents abandoned their children in order to look for love outside their marriage, and now we see those children as adults. And others choose to live lives of misery because they have known nothing else.
When you consider the thousands of people, families, and children we see every year, it's heartbreaking to know that we are barely making a dent in the pains of society. One insurance company has told us they have over 10,000 requests for counseling services a month, and only 750 providers who are accepting their insurance. What happens to the broken-hearted who are begging for help and there isn't anyone available to even sit and listen to their story, or hold their hand, or show that they care? At Encouragers we continue to bring together caring therapists who have a desire to share the mercy and love of God.
