Snap Judgements

I was driving down the street with my brain itemizing all the things I had planned for the day, and I was a little irritated at myself because my day had not been going according to my plan. It was early and the sun was just beginning to peak over the horizon. I noticed a woman walking her dog. She stopped abruptly and pulled out her phone to take a picture of the sky. Then I looked up and saw this beautiful sunrise. Suddenly, the beauty filled my brain and gratitude filled my spirit. I pulled my car to the side of the road and snapped this picture and said "Thank you," out loud to the creator of the universe. Right then, I knew it was going to be a good day.

Buddha was asked, "What have you gained by meditation?" He replied, "Nothing!

However, let me tell you what I have lost: Anger, Anxiety, Depression, Insecurity,

Fear of old age, and Death."

Working as a therapist is one of the most gratifying things I have ever done in my life. To meet with someone who is motivated to search for answers for change and to help them find their own pathway toward living a full and happy life is a blessing and honor to me. This week several people made statements of gratitude, "It's life changing," or "I found my purpose," or even a simple, "I no longer want to die" can bring such joy to my soul. There is nothing as beautiful as a grateful heart for out of our gratitude, love can flourish.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.”

Psalm 136:1

So today, if you're feeling irritable and angry, if your life feels as unorganized as your house, if your children are screaming and out of control, if you feel overwhelmed, confused, hurt or unloved, take a moment to look up. You might see a beautiful sunrise (or sunset) and the glory of God can change your attitude to one of gratitude and love.

"I would rather die of passion, than of boredom." Vincent van Gogh
