Puzzled Purpose

The song, "Just Be Held" by Casting Crowns has a sentence that says, "Your world's not falling apart, it's falling into place."

When I consider this concept, I think of a box of puzzle pieces being tossed into the air. As they remain suspended and before they come crashing down, God takes each piece one-by-one and assembles the puzzle into the most beautiful picture of your life.

Unfortunately, all we can see is a life turned upside down and it doesn't make sense to us. But that's okay. It doesn't have to make sense to us. Eventually, God reveals his plan and purpose for our life. We just have to be willing to live it on his terms. In his timing. This is what faith is all about.

Most people look at life through the lens of comfort and discomfort. We don't like change because change can cause discomfort. But growth doesn't happen without change so growth in itself can create a huge measure of discomfort. Take the story of Joseph (Genesis 37-50) and the numerous changes he went through. At the age of 17 he had two dreams that reveal one day he will be in a position of authority over his family. This causes his father to rebuke him for his arrogance and angers his older brothers to the point where they plan to murder him. Instead, at the most opportune time, a caravan of travelers purchase Joseph as a slave and he ends up first at the Captain of the Guards home and eventually is thrown into prison on false charges. With each change of circumstances Joseph steps into the new situation and grows from it. He is a constant learner, seeking to capture whatever lessons he can in order to become more valuable. He uses his gifts and talents, fine tuning his skills, and many years later, he rises to a place of prominence where his dreams are realized.

How many of us look at our circumstances and quit living? Consider your circumstances...

Do you feel like things are being tossed about, ripped, torn, and broken apart? Is your marriage or relationship struggling? Have you come to a place of constant worry over things you can't control? Are you feeling helpless in your circumstances? Read the story about Joseph. In every circumstance he felt that way...initially. Then he would accept his life as it was and he would focus on how to make it better. He didn't stay stuck. He would look for opportunity in the circumstances to grow. We have to go through life, why not grow through it as well?

There is a saying that when God closes one door, he opens another. Look for the other door, that's the one God wants you to walk through. Don't look down at where you are...look forward to where you are going. Take a leap and step out in faith. You might just find your life purpose is falling into place.
