Roaring Success

September 6, 2019

Life challenges us all. No one gets through life without a little scaring and a little pain. Everyone who is breathing must make decisions that are difficult and could have risk involved. But what if risk could be fun?

One of my clients who had unique difficulties put it this way, "Life is risky. I'm looking forward to the risk. I'm looking at risk more positively. The only way we learn is by making mistakes. I've learned that and I'm teaching my daughter now."

Famous motivational speaker Tony Robbins has a Netflix video called, I AM NOT YOUR GURU. In that video Tony shares about his intensive workshops. A portion of the video brings goosebumps to my arms and tears to my eyes every time I watch it. Tony is talking with a couple who had an assignment to share what they wanted from their marriage. The wife went first and shared all her dreams, hopes, and expectations. The husband basically said, "Yea, I want the same things." Tony pulled him from the seats and into the isle and began to help him find his voice by learning to ROAR. It's quite inspiring (watch at: https://www.netflix.com/title/80102204).

It's so inspirational in fact, I share it with my clients who say they are "stuck" and can't figure out who they are or what they want to do with their life. Being stuck seems to be a common theme amongst not only our youth, but through all of life changes and following milestones.  The "What Now?" question seems to be heard everywhere. I've heard the question: "I've... graduated high school, college, had my wedding, got divorced, raised my kids, retired...NOW WHAT?"  One 25 year old client said she was so depressed over this unanswered question that she would spend days in bed wrapped in depression. A veteran in his 50's reported doing the same thing, "I just don't know how to get unstuck."

So, I recommend to them to watch Tony's video and then I ask them to identify everything they enjoy doing, all the fun stuff. Then we look for a job that would include that fun.  Most people don't have an imagination for this type of thing because we are not required to use our imagination anymore. The phone or computer does all our thinking for us. Consequently, people in mass are not able to even envision the possibilities. I on the other hand, am a visionary and LOVE gifting my imagination to them. The 25 year old said she loves horses...so I shared all the knowledge I knew about volunteering at riding stables, wineries, private owners who need someone to exercise their horses, and gave her pages of horse rescue outfits looking for help. The 50 year old veteran has a vision now as well and the turn from hopelessness has been changed into a life with a purpose. Both found their voice in finding their purpose. Both now are in pursuit of developing their roar. Both are getting out of bed, have left depression behind, and are living healthier than they have been in years.

Are you living a life of purpose and joy, or struggling through life defeated and depressed? Look for your roar and at the end of it will be your success.
