Moon Dancing

Dancing in the moonlight and Moondance where two songs by Van Morrison who connected romance and moonbeams. He certainly wasn't the first one to sing about dancing under the skys natural night light, but he was one of my favorite artists of the 1970's. This past weekend we had a beautiful full moon before the rains came on Sunday. My brother Michael sent me this photo he took from his home in Florida. I love it. Living in Southern California it's been so long since I've been able to see the "The Man In The Moon." This photo has brought back memories of my childhood when the entire family would sit on the roof of our house and star gaze under the light of a full moon.

I also thought it great timing that he sent me this photo as I had suggested other family members take their spouses outside and dance in the moonlight because the evening was perfectly made for it.

When was the last time you were spontaneously romantic? When was the last time you took your loved one in your arms and "whispered sweet nothings" in his or her ear and nuzzled your face into their neck? Did you ever do such silly things as make belly farts with your mouth on their belly, or kiss the palm of their hand as you held it? Have you ever just looked deeply into their eyes and found the variances in their eye color, the flecks of gold mixed in with the light green or blue? Have you ever given "Butterfly kisses" with your eyelashes, or nibbled their ear and watched them squirm with giddy laughter? Or did you chase your girlfriend around in a whirlwind of romantic energy only to settle into a marriage of routine where romance and moonlights flickered and died?

I love how the Bible talks about romance in terms that would make a sailor blush. The book of Solomon, also called the Song of Solomon, is a beautiful tribute to unashamed romance in words and actions between two lovers. If you have forgotten what it is to be in love, to feel the pitter-patter of your heartbeat, or the heartbeat of your lover, read this book. Take from it some clues and try them out on your sweetheart. Let love illuminate your life and bring it to a place of beautiful connection.

"How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your oils than any spice!"

Song of Solomon 4:10 (ESV)
