Spring Sights

Good morning America!

What a beautiful photo of the blessings of spring. Are you seeing it? There are many blessings that, unless you are looking for them, you will miss. Everywhere blessings are blooming.

Yes, we are living in uncharted waters with the Coronavirus being talked about at every turn, but what we are experiencing feels very familiar to me. I am reminded of 9-1-1 when Twin Towers and the Pentagon were attacked by terrorists. The American people came together, supported each other, and did the best we could as a nation. In one way, I feel so blessed by the response of the masses, even while the few continue to act in ways that are harmful and inexcusable.

After 25 years in law enforcement, I find I am able to be flexible and less reactive to the situation at hand. I tend to press through the challenge with my head up and feet firmly on the ground. To me, my faith says, “This too shall pass” and the need for mental health services are needed more now as everyone is scared, anxious, and worried about what the future will reveal. News of a possible economic shut down increases the worries of families who have not been taught how to budget their finances, or set up their households for sucess. The toilet paper shortage is a small sign of how so many are unprepared.

So, until I am told otherwise, our doors remain open. My therapists can work from home to meet the needs of the technology challenged by continuing to see them in person. We honor and respect the advice of our medical professionals and adhere to limiting our space to under 5 people at a time. We constantly clean and have disinfectants available for both staff and clients. The students who volunteer their time are a valued and integral part of our ability to help the financially impaired community. This population is growing as people find themself furloughed from their jobs and I desire to meet the needs of those who are fearful about their future. I wonder how bad it will get right along with everyone else, but as a trained First Responder, my duty is to serve.

We all walk in faith today. Hope is in abundance like the budding of the trees. All we have to do is look around and we will see beauty in the kindness of a friend, the love of our family, and the care of Encouragers.

17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary,

but what is unseen is eternal."

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (NIV)
