Bitter Sweet

One of the most difficult parts of running a training center is that people come into my life, they learn, they develop their gifts, they reach excellence, and then they leave. I stand back and watch them grow into clinicians of character, confidence, and competence. I am filled with both pride and pain as another success story unfolds.

Kelly Wilson, Associate Social Worker joined Encouragers in 2019. She had graduated from her Social Work studies and began the journey of on-the-job learning. After only two years (it can take up to 8 years for some people to get to this point), Kelly has completed the 3500 hours required to enable her to take her board exams for her license. The road has been filled with laughter and tears as she has embraced her calling to serve others. Kelly is one of the most compassionate people I have come to know, and being the first to complete our Associate-License pathway, it's hard to see her go.

Encouragers Counseling & Training Centers mission is to offer therapists a learning experience like no other. Psychology students working in their Masters Programs and those who have graduated can experience on-the-job training in the field of mental health. Encouragers has a unique approach to learning because we partner with many populations needing mental health services. We work with the homeless, veterans, foster agencies, and the addiction community. We help those stuck in domestic violence, and those who have been trafficked for sex. We work with families, children, and the individual. We help those who are suffering and who need a shoulder to cry on.

Kelly and Simon's (pictured) parting is both bitter and sweet. To know she is pursuing her passion and that I could be a small part of her journey has been an honor. Shakespeare said it best, "Parting is such sweet sorrow."
