No Room

Some people like a vacation where they pay for an upgraded room with a view. From their balcony they can see the ocean, forest, or a cascading waterfall. But for me, I prefer no room.

I don't need walls to limit my ability to see for miles and miles in all directions. I love to look up at the puffy clouds that block the heat of the day. I love to look from side to side and take in the rolling hills around me. I like to look at the pavement as it rolls past under my feet. I love the feel of power in my hands as I ride the curves and byways. The rumble of the motor tells me all is well and I get lost in the moment of pure solitude.

There is nothing like the feeling of being in control of your day. You choose when, where, and how long you intend to be gone. You can take off on a motorcycle (my preference), or you can take a drive, ride a bike, or go for a hike. It's all the same when it comes to planning your day, your activities, and your destination. Taking time for yourself is necessary in today's hectic world that is always making demands of you. Take a break, step outside and breathe in the fresh morning air. Feel the wind in your face and use all your senses not just the ones to watch TV, work on your laptop, or play a video game. Get out of the house, your workspace, and escape the things that restrict you. Break free with your day with focused intent to do nothing in particular. Embrace the moment for as long as you can and thank God for the day's blessings before the walls of reality close back around you.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

Matthew 11:28
