Celebrating Women

Since 1995, March has been known as, "Women's History Month" celebrating the contribution of famous women throughout history. But I'd like to celebrate the infamous women of today. These women are making history in the lives of their children, and their children's children by the way they live.

The women I admire are the ones who selflessly love their children and want the best for them. They work diligently to create not only a life, but a lifestyle. They prepare nourishing meals, replace missing buttons, play games, and read to their children. They are not afraid to discipline their children and teach them right from wrong. They don't give them a safe space because they teach their children resilience and strength. They give them the tools to get up when they fall and kiss boo-boos away and encourage them to grow.

The women I admire are strong, confident, and courageous. They are the Momma-Bears who will fight and defend their children, but they also hold their children accountable for the wrongs they do. They love unconditionally, but their love also can be tough. They smile often, laugh freely, and hug tightly. They are both tender and firm in guiding their little lambs. With a gentle nudge when they go astray momma brings them back toward home when they've lost their way.

These women know who they are and are striving to be the best they can be. They do it because they have strength of character and a faith deeply rooted in God. They love because God has shown his love to them. They know they are imperfect, but they know they are imperfectly loved. They sing praise and worship in church and in their home. They read Bible stories to their children and give them the tools to know God. They teach their children about repentance, forgiveness, and grace. And through her actions and words she shows them God's love and his presence is in everything.

These women love their husbands and are equally loved by them. They express their love through their words and actions and their children feel safe and secure in their presence. They fight fiercely but make-up and love just as fierce. They never talk about divorce, because they would never want to end the love they committed their heart to. They have wisdom beyond knowledge, and they work as a team. Together, they are building a life they desire and together they will accomplish it. Not exactly equal, but equally committed they will struggle together, embracing challenges, and celebrating the good and accepting the not-so-good.

"She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness."

Proverbs 31:26-27
