Innocence Lost

What are we doing to our children? They are laying wounded on the grounds of our selfish discontentment. They are crying out for love, affection, and attention and are left to their own destruction: Vaping, Drugs, babies birthing babies, and they are hurting each other on school grounds across America. Why can't we see the truth and it has nothing to do with Gun Control or the IRA.

The beautiful innocence of youth is all too quickly consumed by the lives we are designing or allowing to be designed for us. We are addicted to the negative pondering of the media, critical analysis of any perspective in opposition to either side of whatever flavor of controversy is offered. Gone are the days of whimsical merrymaking where simple pleasures ruled the day and we are missing the opportunity to love because we are too often focused on hate.

But, there is hope...if we wake up and make a choice to return to the "days of yester-year. Days when families stayed together, when parents participated in their children's lives, not because they are obligated, but because they truly enjoy spending time with their kids and their spouse. Back to the days when children could feel safe and parents protected their little hearts and minds. When conversations were both caught and taught. Where morals and values and faith and beliefs were something a child learned from their parents and not from the internet. Where a touch was love and something to desire and not something to recoil from in fear.

Today, turn off your TV and pick up a BOARD game. Not one on your phone or laptop, but a REAL board game. Turn off all static in the background and listen to the laughter of the children. Learn who they are becoming before you miss it and they are gone. Look into their eyes, into their souls and embrace all that is good in the world, because it's right in front of you: in the smile on their face. Then notice how it makes you feel, an awakening in your heart, a softening of your eyes as you smile back at them. Laugh out loud and if you think, "It's been so long since I've laughed with my kids" take note. You're not the only one noticing it. Embrace the innocence before it is lost.

16 They said to him, “Do you hear what these children are saying?”

Jesus replied, “Yes, I do. Have you never read,

‘From the mouths of little children and infants, you have created praise’?”

Matthew 21:16 GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
