Stary Stary Night

Astrology and star gazing have been around for centuries and is recorded in books, tablets, and even in cave drawings. Wisdom was said to have been "found in the stars" and for centuries men have been looking into the heavens for answers to life's questions.

Is it no wonder that the foretelling of the Messiah would be found in the stars, or actually just ONE star, a new star that had never been seen before the night Jesus was born.

Wise men who were star gazers and had the knowledge of the heavens all noticed a new star. I imagine it was a big deal that a new star had appeared from seemingly nowhere. What would it mean? How would it change their beliefs whatever they were at the time? Or was it THE star that they had been waiting for?

With charts in hand and a plan to follow the star, the wise men took off in search of the one the scriptures had told of: The Messiah. When they arrived in Jerusalem they asked King Herod,

“Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?

We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

Matthew 2:2

After the king sent them on their way, they left the King and following the star,

"the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was."

Matthew 2:9

And when they found the baby Jesus, they worshiped him and brought him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
